frost

I don’t know if I’m ready for winter, but I do love the crunch of a good frost underfoot. We awoke today to a glimmering icy blanket on the world outside. There’s something about a clear, cold morning that just makes me feel alive. I bundled up for a few photos, then came inside and drank three cups of super hot coffee while snuggling under a blanket with Bird. Some mornings, coffee just seems so much better than others.

All this cold weather coming is making me starving! And all I want to eat are mashed potatoes, soup and parmesan cheese. Seriously, I put parmesan cheese on my pears and toast at breakfast this morning. And then I had it for lunch, too. I’m making this soup tonight, sprinkled with lots of parm. Lentil stew is my favorite stew. Aside from this amazing recipe for beer braised beef stew, which is a Christmas favorite and easy to make gluten-free. Oh and I made these at the recommendation of Lecia last night and they were ah-mazing. Brian and I ate nearly the whole batch while standing in the kitchen before dinner.

Brian is out renting a movie and I plan to lay in bed with a warming drink and a heating pad (I wrenched my back today–no fun) while we watch it.

Winter might be kind of nice, come to think of it.

Have a great weekend!

  1. The more photos I see from your surroundings the more I oooo and aaaaa!! The weather here has cooled down a little but it never gets cold enough in the winter to have frost like that . We do get very cold and humid winters however and the houses here loose alot of heat. Humidity is very high here due to the fact that Malta is a small island. Houses are built with limestone and no sort of heating or insulations. This is all because of the hot weather in the summer. What we do have however are lots of airconditioners for the summer and the odd fireplace in the living room (not all houses however).

    1. In about a month, I’ll trade you :) I love living here but I am not a snow lover. Maybe this is because I grew up in a desert? Suppose it is. I can’t wait to check out your Malta blog… I haven’t had a chance to yet but it sounds SO intriguing!

  2. Pears and parmesan are a wonderful combination, topped only by pears and best quality roquefort (costco in anchorage has delicious papillon brand). as for your pictures, they’re lovely. i particularly like eerie quality of the frost-covered grass.

    1. I’ll have to look for it at our Costco! That’s where I found these delicious Bosc pears. I’m not really sure I could live here without Costco :) Thanks for the tip and the compliments.

    1. Sometimes I feel like winter is the only distinct season here! But that’s only because I’m afraid of it right now. :)
