winter skies

It’s almost solstice and we are seeing less and less of the sun. Though lately, the few hours of daylight have been truly spectacular… if you can manage to catch them.

And these winter skies could only bring beauty for the ground, too. Momentarily at least.  The thing about here is that it’s winter one day and just plain old Juneau the next. Snow, rain, snow, rain. It’s a rain spell now but I’m hoping for a white Christmas.

  1. Such lovely pictures! Loving the house on the hill nested in the pines. Keep warm and wishing you a white Christmas.

    1. Isn’t that a neat house? I only can see the back view from the beach… the front is nestled in the woods. An amazing, cozy hideaway.

  3. ooh it is so beautiful I feel my eyes watering… I would certainly give up a lot of our wet & misty day time for more darkness if it was to be able to witness all this in person !
I hope it will be snow only around Christmas, for you guys, it has always been my dream and never came true over here — the only time was when in college I went skiing in the Alps at Christmas (and was also my only Christmas not at home)
let it snow and wishing you a wonderful season xo

  5. I adore those top two images…so beautiful! Does Juneau fall into complete darkness around the solstice or do you keep a few hours of daylight?

    1. Hi Erica, Juneau isn’t so bad as we are in the southeast panhandle of Alaska. Only the Arctic Circle falls into complete darkness on solstice (though far, far north they are dark for months–no thanks). I think our shortest day is around six hours of daylight, or from about 9am-3pm roughly.

  6. lovely photos! glad you are still posting a few here and there (i don’t have the time or ability to join instagram, or a few other of your haunts, so i wait patiently until i catch you here!! :)

i’d love me some snow soon, too.
i miss it, but at least we’ve been drier this year, so instead of a green, muddy christmas, it will likely be just a green christmas :)
